In this presentation, we will explore several foundational frameworks to provide a unifying view of how we can use Heart Rate Variability (HRV) to evaluate and monitor our health and that of our patients. The presentation will start off with an overview of why we as practitioners and health leaders should be familiar with HRV as a set of biomarkers.

We will then take a closer look at what HRV is and how our body creates it. We'll then take a broad view of how the Universe functions according to both a modern translation of the Neijing, a 2,000 year old core text of Classical Chinese Medicine, as well as according to modern physics.

The Taoist view the human body as a microcosm of this celestial realm. Just as a human being is a microcosm of the macrocosm, we each contain an entire universe. As the eternal light of universal intelligence, Big Shen, embodies, it has to undergo a series of steps in order to become Jing. As universal intelligence coalesces into a human genome, Jing is activated by bioelectric fields into specific materialization. At death, the process is reversed.

We will delve into the Taoist wisdom to discover these steps of creation into and out of materiality, and develop acupuncture treatment strategies to assist in accessing the power of the unborn potential during life.

Sensation, movement and autonomic functions of the face and head are provided by the 12 cranial nerves.Dysfunction in any one of the cranial nerves results in devastating pain, paralysis or dysautonomia.Dr. Chiang will explain classical passages on cranial nerve anatomy and pathology from the Ling Shu.Six out of twelve cranial nerves have branches that reach the surface of the body thus are accessible through acupuncture. Through dissection and electrostimulation evidence, we will learn how to directly modulate these accessible cranial nerves. The remaining 6 cranial nerves that are not directly accessible, can be indirectly influenced through their connection from the brainstem to the cortex of the brain. Informed by MRI-based brain research conducted by Dr. Chiang, we will learn how to influence cranial nerves that are thought to be out of reach. Using clinical cases, you will see how this research is applied to improve the lives of patients with various cranial nerve pathologies.

In Chinese medicine, self-esteem is the domain of the Emperor Heart. When the Emperor is joyful and content, there will be a strong sense of self. But self-esteem can be affected by external influences or internal influences, and that is where the Pericardium, or Heart Protector comes in. Both organs are vital to consider when treating self-esteem. But what about the other concepts mentioned in the title of this workshop – the Inner Critic and Shén Scars? The inner critic is a vital component of our self, as long as it has two things: an opposite and an off switch. We will discuss these in detail. Shén scars are also a vital component of self. In fact, these scars are what have made you who you are at this exact moment in time. Different scars, or no scars, and you are no longer YOU. Seeing as the inner critic and Shén scars are inherent in us, they will be supportive at times. Sometimes, however, they are more critical, judgy, foul mouthed and unrelenting. It is during these times that we need the most help.

What you will learn:

  • Have a much greater understanding of Self-Esteem, along with the workshop’s key themes of the Inner Critic and Shén Scars.

  • Understand additional concepts discussed, including Heart Shines, the External and Internal Skins of self-esteem, Soul Tattoos, Thought Cemetery and Spirit Burial Ground.
  • Appreciate the opposing, yet supportive, nature of the inner critic and Heart shines, along with their relationship to The 12 Parents.
  • More confidently diagnose and treat patients for self-esteem, the inner critic and Shén scars.

In this series, I will explore how pain, in its various forms, is a pathway to awakening and wholeness. Participants will learn theory and practical application for various pain presentations using a mixture of Chinese medical wisdom and subtle healing tools.

The lumina process is a modality developed by Alexander Love, that draws upon wisdom of Chinese medicine, Internal Family Systems, the work of Kim Barta, neuroscience, and his own discoveries with clients. Participants will be introduced to basic 'parts' theory from a Chinese medicine perspective and how the yin and yang guardian parts are often a primary cause of physical pain and how to support your clients to interact with these parts to reduce or eliminate pain, sometimes in seconds. Further, students will learn strategies to sustain the work by learning tools to re-pattern the nervous system to help the changes hold. Additional strategies will be taught to use acupuncture as an accompaniment to inner parts work.

What you will learn:

  • To understand the role of yin and yang guardian parts of the self in the creation of physical pain.
  • To learn and practice simple strategies for helping protector parts turn the pain cycle off.
  • To discover practices for clients to rewire their nervous system to help the parts work hold.
  • To develop Acupuncture strategies to support the resolution of physical pain.

Digesting Life: Post-natal Qi and the Middle Jiao

Live Webinar - Sunday, June 2, 2024 @ 9:00am PT / 12:00 pm ET / 5:00pm GMT

Yvonne Farrell

Join Yvonne Farrell

This 6-hour course takes a look at how the organs of the middle jiao (the Spleen & Fu organs) not only digest food but also help us digest every experience we have in life. These organs help us to find nourishment even in the face of adversity and they eliminate that which is not nourishing. The primary channel system maintains organ function and it relies on the middle jiao to provide the raw materials for that purpose. The ability to maintain the ascending and descending of qi is also governed by this system and this supports the circulation needed for digesting life. The course will explore impediments to digestion including: diet, emotions which pervert the flow of qi, lifestyle choices, Yin Fire, Gu syndrome and possession by Gui. We will look at how the spirit of the Spleen, the Yi, can be supported so that we can create context for challenging experiences. A healthy Spleen/Yi can create a more stable and grounded environment for facing life’s challenges. Our investigation will also look at the importance of the Fu organs in their ability to recognize the difference between healthy and toxic input. These are the organs that decide what is acceptable to internalize and they also remove, through elimination, that which is not useful.

What you will learn:

  • 1. Attendees will explore an expended perspective on digestion and its necessity for surviving adversity.
  • 2. Attendees will review the theories of illness according to the Pi Wei Lun (Spleen Stomach School).

  • 3. Attendees will learn to recognize the impediments to digestion and their associated mental-emotional imbalances.

  • 4. Attendees will learn several primary channel treatment approaches to address digestive issues.address digestive issues.

Divergent Meridians: The Conflict Between Self & Other

Live Webinar - Sunday, July 14, 2024 @ 9:00am PT / 12:00 pm ET / 5:00pm GMT

Yvonne Farrell

This 6-hour course will introduce the unique qualities of the Divergent meridians that make them essential in the treatment of life-threatening or life-altering conditions. When our survival is threatened it is the goal of the Divergent meridians to create chronicity. They slow down the disease process by relocating a pathogenic factor or challenging experience to the joints where it can be trapped, safely away from the organs. This gives us the time we need to rally our resources in order to eliminate the pathogen.

What you will learn:

  • 1. Participants will learn to recognize Divergent pathology based on organ symptoms, emotional signatures and assessment of physical pain.
  • 2. Participants will learn how to create simple but effective Divergent treatments.

  • 3. Participants will deepen their understanding of the relationship between Yuan qi and Wei qi.

  • 4. Participants will learn techniques and approaches to treatments to release or maintain latency in the Divergents

This one of a kind program preserves the core values unique to Eastern and Western Medicine by analyzing Chinese medical classics, while citing peer-review biomedical research articles. The classical point location taught here is based on descriptions from the Ling Shu and Jia Yi Jing (Systematic Classic), which often differs from modern TCM standardized locations. This program will reveal the seamless overlap between classical point locations and detailed location of peripheral nerve trunks and its branches, whereas many modern locations have drifted away from peripheral nerves as point targets. Together we will rediscover the original intention behind the LingShu and Jia Yi Jing as detailed records of precise locations for stimulating new branches.

What you will learn:

  • 1. Understand the similarities between the anatomy of acu-points from classical and biomedical source for Lower Extremity.
  • 2. Understand the nervous system to refine intention and needle precision.
  • 3. Learn the reproducible DeQi response for each Lower Extremity point.
  • 4. Learn to treat common Lower Extremity neuro-muscular conditions using an elegant S.M.A.R.T. treatment plan (Sensory, Motor, Autonomic, Radiculopathy & Trigger)

Improving Endometrial Receptivity Through the Lens of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine

Live Webinar - Sunday, August 18, 2024 @ 8:30am PT / 11:30 am ET / 4:30pm GMT

Brian G. and Julie M

Join Brian Grosam and Julie McCormick

Many people seeking acupuncture and Chinese medicine support for fertility issues in today’s modern and turbulent society present with poor endometrial receptivity. We, as Chinese medicine practitioners, have a wealth of tools to make a real impact for this population. Whether due to familial issues, lifestyle, or the effects of ART treatments, historically, Chinese medicine has proven to be effective in its ability to regulate and bring about menstrual cycle stabilization to support fertility efforts. By doing this, we can impact the health of the endometrium. We begin by discussing physiology and defining the parameters needed for optimal endometrial receptivity. Taking into account scientific evidence, we then identify how this information translates into Chinese medicine. Relying on the historical merits of our medicine and its impact on the menstrual cycle and uterine lining, we aim to help the clinician avoid the common frustration trying to understand and interpret scientific evidence and western medical test results. Our aim is to help practitioners learn how to utilize and translate this information, through the lens of Chinese medicine, to improve outcomes and positively affect patient success.

What you will learn:

  • You will learn the physiology and defining the parameters needed for optimal endometrial receptivity.
  • Learn how to circumvent patients inability to become pregnant, and/or repeated implantation failure, by correctly identifying our patient's clinical presentations while avoiding the common misdiagnosis pitfalls.

  • Learn acupuncture and herbal strategies, their usefulness, and when they are appropriate to incorporate into practice
